Overview
Meta Quest 3S launched on October 15, 2024 at $299.99 for 128 GB and $399.99 for 256 GB. On April 19, 2026, Meta raised those prices to $349.99 and $449.99, blaming higher memory chip costs. Quest 3S took over from the Meta Quest 2 as Meta's lowest-cost headset. It has the same processor and software as the Meta Quest 3, so it runs the same apps and games.
Display and optics
To save money, Quest 3S uses a display and optics similar to Quest 2: 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye behind Fresnel lenses. Meta lists a 96-degree horizontal and 90-degree vertical field of view, with refresh rates of 72, 90 and 120 Hz. Lens spacing has three fixed positions: 58, 63 and 68 mm. The image is softer toward the edges than on Quest 3, and the headset sits a little farther from the face.
Comfort and design
The headset weighs about 514 g with the standard strap, and Meta rates battery life at about 2.5 hours. Inside is a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 with 8 GB of RAM. An Action button on the side switches between passthrough and VR with one press.
Tracking and controllers
Inside-out tracking uses cameras on the front of the headset. Color passthrough lets you see the room and use mixed reality apps. Hand tracking is built in, and the included Touch Plus controllers are the same ring-less controllers that come with Quest 3.
Software and apps
Quest 3S installs apps and games from the Meta Horizon Store, and the browser runs WebXR content. For PC VR, it supports Quest Link over USB and Air Link over Wi-Fi. Valve's Steam Link app can also stream SteamVR games from a gaming PC.
Who it is for
Quest 3S suits first-time VR buyers, families and players who want access to the full Quest library at the lowest price. People who care most about clarity, a wider view or text readability for productivity will notice the step up to Quest 3's pancake lenses.
