Meta Quest Elite Strap with Battery

Overview

The Meta Quest Elite Strap with Battery is Meta's official hard head strap with a built-in battery pack. It launched on October 10, 2023 alongside the Meta Quest 3 at $129.99, under the name Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery. Meta now sells it as the Meta Quest Elite Strap with Battery, still at $129.99 on the US Meta Store. It replaces the soft fabric strap that ships with the headset.

Design and battery

The strap uses a rigid frame, a cushioned rear cradle and a fabric top strap. A dial on the back adjusts the fit, and the frame spreads the headset's weight across the back of the head. Meta says the built-in lithium-ion battery adds up to 2 hours of headset use. A short cable on the side plugs into the headset's USB-C port. The box contains the strap with battery, a quick start guide and a safety and warranty guide. Meta does not list the strap's weight on its US store page.

Compatibility

Meta lists the strap as compatible with the Meta Quest 3 and the Meta Quest 3S. It is not listed for the Meta Quest 2, which has its own Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery. A headset fitted with this strap still fits in the Quest 3 Carrying Case and the Quest Carrying Case, and it works with the Quest 3 Charging Dock, so the headset, strap and controllers can charge together.

Charging and use

You charge the headset and the strap battery together with one cable through the headset. Meta's help center notes one limit: the strap only charges to 100% when it is plugged into the headset and the headset can tell it is not being worn. For a full charge, Meta recommends a power adapter rated 18 W or higher. Early units had charging faults, and in November 2023 Meta pulled the strap from its own store while it worked on a fix. It is listed as in stock on the US Meta Store today.

Who it is for

The strap suits Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners who play long sessions and want a firmer fit and extra play time without a separate power bank clipped to the strap. If you only want better comfort, Meta also sells the cheaper Elite Strap without a battery. If you mostly play seated or near a charger, the standard strap and a charging cable may be enough.
