Meta Quest Compact Charging Dock
by Meta
Meta's small charging stand for a Quest headset and two Touch Plus controllers, with rechargeable controller batteries. Works with Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
Overview
The Meta Quest Compact Charging Dock is Meta's official stand for charging a headset and its two Touch Plus controllers at the same time. Meta announced it on September 25, 2024 together with the Meta Quest 3S, and it costs $59.99. It works with both Quest 3S and Meta Quest 3. It is a smaller and cheaper alternative to the $129.99 Meta Quest 3 Charging Dock, which only works with Quest 3.
Design and what is in the box
The dock is a small white base with two cradles for the controllers. The box includes the dock, two rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that replace the AA cells in the Touch Plus controllers, a 32 cm USB-C cable for the headset, a 1.8 m USB-C cable for power, a quick start guide and a safety and warranty guide. A power adapter is not included. Meta says the dock needs at least an 18W adapter and recommends 45W. Meta does not publish a weight or charging times for the dock.
Compatibility
Meta lists Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S as compatible. The dock charges two Touch Plus controllers, with either the standard lanyards or the Meta Quest Active Straps fitted. Quest 3S has no pogo pins, so it cannot use the Quest 3 Charging Dock. The compact dock gets around this by charging the headset through the short USB-C cable instead. Meta only lists Touch Plus controllers for it, so it is not a charger for Touch Pro or Quest 2 controllers.
Setup and use
Before first use, swap the AA batteries in both Touch Plus controllers for the included rechargeable packs, which are marked for left and right. Connect the dock to a USB-C power adapter, set the controllers in their cradles and plug the short cable into the headset. The rechargeable batteries need a full charge before you use them. Keeping the controllers on the dock between sessions also helps avoid flat batteries, a common cause of controller tracking problems.
Who it is for
The Compact Charging Dock suits Quest 3S owners who want a charging dock, since the bigger Quest 3 dock does not support their headset. Quest 3 owners with little desk space may also prefer it. If you already own the Quest 3 Charging Dock and a Quest 3, this dock adds little. Budget for a power adapter if you do not have a spare 18W or 45W one.
