Meta Quest 3

Overview

Meta Quest 3 launched on October 10, 2023 at $499.99 for 128 GB. It replaced the Meta Quest 2 as Meta's main headset. In 2024, a 512 GB model at the same price became the only version. On April 19, 2026, Meta raised the US price to $599.99, citing the rising cost of memory chips. Quest 3 is a standalone headset for games, fitness, video and mixed reality, and it can also stream PC VR.

Display and optics

Each eye has a 2064 × 2208 LCD panel behind pancake lenses. Compared with the Fresnel lenses of Quest 2 and Quest 3S, these stay sharp across more of the view. Meta lists a 110-degree horizontal and 96-degree vertical field of view, with refresh rates of 72, 90 and 120 Hz. A wheel adjusts lens spacing continuously from 53 to 75 mm, and the lens depth can be adjusted for glasses.

Comfort and design

The headset weighs about 515 g with the standard strap. The thinner pancake optics bring the weight closer to the face than on Quest 2. Meta rates battery life at about 2.2 hours on average. Inside is a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 with 8 GB of RAM, which gives roughly twice the graphics performance of Quest 2.

Tracking and controllers

Quest 3 uses inside-out tracking. Two color cameras and a depth sensor give full-color passthrough and let mixed reality apps place objects on real walls and furniture. Hand tracking is built in. The Touch Plus controllers drop the tracking rings of earlier Quest controllers and add better haptics.

Software and apps

Apps and games come from the Meta Horizon Store, which has the largest standalone VR library. The Meta Quest Browser runs WebXR content. For PC VR, Quest Link works over a USB cable and Air Link works over Wi-Fi. Valve's Steam Link app also streams SteamVR games from a gaming PC.

Who it is for

Quest 3 suits people who want the clearest optics in Meta's range and full mixed reality features without a PC. It also works as a wireless PC VR headset for SteamVR players. Buyers on a tighter budget can get the same chip and library with the Meta Quest 3S, but with Fresnel lenses and a narrower view.
