Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery

Overview

The Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery is Meta's official hard head strap for the Meta Quest 2, with a battery built into the rear cradle. It launched with the headset on October 13, 2020, but at first it was only sold in a $129 bundle with the Quest 2 Carrying Case. Meta later sold it on its own: Road to VR listed it at $110, rising to $120 in August 2022. It fell to $89.99 in January 2024 and to $44.99 in April 2024, which is the US Meta Store price today.

Design and battery

The strap has the same rigid frame, flexible brace and fit wheel as the Elite Strap without a battery. The battery sits at the back, where it also counterweights the front-heavy headset. Meta says the built-in rechargeable battery doubles your play time, but it does not give a figure in hours. Meta lists the strap at 200 x 120 x 370 mm. It gives the same 179 g weight as for the plain Elite Strap, although Road to VR found the rear section about twice as thick and twice as heavy.

Compatibility

Meta lists the strap as compatible with the Meta Quest 2 only. The Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S use the Meta Quest Elite Strap with Battery instead. The Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case fits the headset with this strap attached.

Charging and use

A short cable on the left side of the strap plugs into the headset's USB-C port to feed it power. The battery has its own USB-C port, so one charger can top up the strap and the headset together. Road to VR found that the side cable carries power only. To use a Link cable for PC VR games, you have to unplug the strap's cable from the headset. Like the plain Elite Strap, it has no spring fit, so you turn the wheel each time you put the headset on. Facebook paused shipments of both Elite straps in November 2020 after reports of snapping. Sales resumed on December 15, 2020 with a two-year warranty on all Elite Strap accessories.

Who it is for

The strap suits Quest 2 owners who play long standalone sessions and want a firmer fit and more battery time in one accessory. Meta stopped selling the Quest 2 headset in early 2025, so it is mainly for existing owners. If you mostly play over a Link cable, the cheaper Elite Strap without a battery may be enough.
