Overview
The Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap is Meta's official hard head strap for the Meta Quest 2. It launched with the headset on October 13, 2020 as the Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap, priced at $49. The price rose to about $60 in August 2022, fell to $49.99 in January 2024, and was cut to $24.99 in April 2024. $24.99 is still the US Meta Store price today. The strap replaces the soft fabric strap that ships with Quest 2.
Design and specs
The strap uses a rigid frame with a flexible brace that cups the back of the head. A fit wheel on the back tightens or loosens it, and the cradle helps spread the headset's weight for longer sessions. Meta lists the strap at 179 g and 215 x 175 x 104 mm. It has no battery. If you want extra play time, Meta sells the Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery separately.
Compatibility
Meta lists the strap as compatible with the Meta Quest 2 only. It does not fit the Meta Quest 3 or the Meta Quest 3S, which use the Meta Quest Elite Strap instead. Meta says the Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case fits the headset with either Elite strap attached.
Setup and use
The strap clips onto the headset's side arms in place of the stock strap. Road to VR's review found fitting it awkward the first time, and noted that it has no spring mechanism, so you turn the wheel to loosen and tighten it each time you take the headset off and put it on. The rear dial housing can also get in the way if you lean back against a chair or sofa. Soon after launch, some straps snapped. In November 2020 Facebook paused shipments, and it resumed them on December 15, 2020. It blamed a manufacturing inconsistency in some early units and added two-year warranty coverage on all Elite Strap accessories.
Who it is for
The strap suits Quest 2 owners who find the soft stock strap loose or front-heavy and want a firmer fit at a low price. Meta stopped selling the Quest 2 headset itself in early 2025, so the strap is now mainly for existing owners. If you play long sessions away from a charger, the battery version costs $44.99 and adds play time.
