EXD - Extra Dimensional Update Adds Steam Frame Controls, DLSS and FSR

EXD - Extra Dimensional is a PC VR adventure from Lords of Illusion. Update 1.1.4, released on November 7, 2026, adds Steam Frame controller support, AMD FSR2, Nvidia DLSS modes and experimental eye-tracked foveated rendering.

The update improves Steam Frame controller recognition and mapping, including support for the left controller's directional pad. It also expands OpenXR support and adds compatibility with Virtual Desktop's VDXR mode.

New rendering options for PC VR

EXD - Extra Dimensional now offers AMD FSR2 and two Nvidia DLSS modes. Results depend on the GPU, headset, settings and scene, so image quality and performance will vary between systems.

DLSS is split into Classic and Advanced. Classic becomes the default for new profiles and prioritizes performance, including on older graphics cards. Advanced provides newer DLSS 4 and 4.5 models. Changing DLSS models requires a restart.

FSR2 adds an upscaling choice for players with AMD graphics cards. Lords of Illusion says beta testers saw gains of up to 20 frames per second in ideal conditions. That figure is not a guarantee for every system.

Advanced DLSS also includes Light and High fixed foveated rendering settings. These reduce reconstruction detail toward the edges while preserving detail in the center. They do not require eye tracking and are unavailable with Classic DLSS.

Steam Frame eye tracking setup

The separate eye-tracked foveated rendering option remains experimental. Steam Frame users must browse the game files and launch OpenXR with DirectX 12 from the Utility folder. Compatible hardware and runtime are required; selecting the default launch option does not provide this setup.

DirectX 11 remains the default renderer. Steam provides SteamVR/OpenVR and OpenXR launch modes, while DirectX 12 launch options are located in the Utility folder. A later hotfix added missing Valve Index controller bindings for OpenXR and adjusted the Light fixed-foveation setting.

Controls, centering and stability fixes

Update 1.1.4 adds height controls and a left-handed thumbstick swap. It also revises level centering so movement around the room is taken into account.

Another fix addresses an OpenXR crash that could occur when changing levels or returning to the menu through Virtual Desktop VDXR. Players who use Quest recentering and Steam recentering together may need to check their calibration.

EXD - Extra Dimensional remains a PC VR game. These Steam Frame controller and eye-tracking additions do not confirm that the full game runs standalone on Steam Frame. Check current requirements and launch instructions for the hardware and runtime being used.
