3dSenVR 2.0 Adds OpenXR and Steam Frame Controller Support to Geod Studio’s VR emulator for selected NES games. The update brings new rendering choices, scene controls and library navigation to PC VR, including SteamVR headsets and Meta Quest connections.
3dSenVR is a separate VR version of 3dSen. It presents compatible 8-bit NES games as three-dimensional scenes, or playable 3D voxel dioramas, that users can view in a headset. Players must provide their own game files. The software does not include Nintendo’s game library.
MIXED reported the update on 2026-11-02. Geod Studio’s Steam announcement identifies version 2.0 with the subtitle “Sub-voxel, bend it, shade it, make it shine.”
OpenXR and controller support
3dSenVR 2.0 uses OpenXR, which Geod Studio describes as a PC VR standard. The update supports SteamVR headsets and Steam Frame controllers. Meta Quest connections are supported through Link, Air Link or Virtual Desktop.
The supplied update information does not specify standalone Steam Frame support. It also does not establish standalone Meta Quest support. The listed Quest options require Link, Air Link or Virtual Desktop.
Users can remap headset-controller buttons for actions such as rewind, fast-forward and quick saves. Steam Frame’s D-pad uses an Xbox-like layout, according to Geod Studio’s update notes.
Optional rendering and scene controls
A new Retina rendering mode creates smoother shapes instead of building every pixel as a block. Users select it under Display and can adjust reflections, shading, pixel shadows, voxel grooves and world curvature.
These effects start switched off. The classic appearance remains available, so the revised visual treatment is optional rather than required.
Version 2.0 also adds a dedicated Scene Scale tab in VR. This gives users a separate place to adjust the size of the scene while playing.
Redesigned library and VR navigation
The revised library supports grid and list views, cover art, search, filtering and favourites. A gamepad can navigate the library, and an on-screen keyboard supports searches.
Inside VR, users point at items with a controller and pull the trigger to select them. Geod Studio removed the previous gaze-control option. Returning users therefore need to use a controller pointer or gamepad instead.
The update changes how the headset menus work, but it keeps the focus on selected NES games shown as three-dimensional scenes. The game files remain separate from the application, and Nintendo’s game library is not included.
When the app opens on desktop
If 3dSenVR opens on the desktop instead of in the headset, Geod Studio recommends checking that the headset’s OpenXR runtime is active. For SteamVR headsets, users should check SteamVR settings. For Meta Quest connections, they should check the Meta Quest Link app.
The update is available for PC VR. Its listed headset paths include SteamVR hardware, Steam Frame and Meta Quest through Link, Air Link or Virtual Desktop. The supplied details do not state a standalone headset mode or a separate standalone Steam Frame version.
