Overview

Meta VR Glasses are a glasses-style VR device that Meta announced at Connect on September 23, 2026. The glasses weigh about 100 g, because the chip, battery and storage move into a separate pocket-sized puck connected by a thin optical cable. Meta lists a price of $1,299.99 and a release in spring 2027. Preorders have not opened yet.

Display and optics

Each eye has a 2412 × 2288 micro-OLED panel running at up to 120 Hz behind compact pancake lenses. Meta calls the system a 5K display, quotes 37 pixels per degree and supports Dolby Vision. The field of view is about 70 degrees horizontal by 66 vertical, narrower than the 110 by 96 degrees of Meta Quest 3 but much sharper. The sides of the frame are open, and an optional light blocker clips in. Lens spacing adjusts by hand from 56 to 70 mm, and prescription add-ons are planned.

Comfort and design

The frame is made of magnesium alloy and, according to Meta, is five times lighter than Quest 3. The puck weighs about 300 g and holds a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a microSD slot. Meta rates the battery for up to three hours of continuous high-resolution video, with 45 W fast charging. Dolby Atmos speakers sit in the arms, and the glasses come in Standard and Large sizes.

Tracking and controllers

Eyes and hands are the main inputs, and no controllers come in the box. You select with your gaze, pinch to confirm, and can use a table as a virtual keyboard and touchpad. A full-color passthrough camera keeps the room in view, and the glasses also track facial expressions. Touch Plus controllers, sold separately, work for games that need them.

Software and apps

The glasses run the same operating system, Meta Horizon Store and developer tools as Meta Quest. Meta says more than 75 games will play with hand tracking at launch, every Quest game will play with Touch Plus controllers, and Xbox Cloud Gaming is supported. The main focus is watching. Meta calls it the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device, Disney+ is adding 3D films, and Meta promises more than 100 immersive live sports events a year. A laptop or other USB-C DisplayPort device can also appear as a virtual screen.

Who it is for

Meta VR Glasses suit people who mostly watch films, follow sports or work on virtual screens and want something far lighter than a headset. Players who want a wide field of view or controller games can stay with the much cheaper Quest 3.
