Overview

The Meta Quest 3 Silicone Facial Interface is Meta's official wipe-clean facial interface for the Meta Quest 3. Meta announced it with Quest 3 on September 27, 2023 at $39.99, and it went on sale with the headset on October 10, 2023. Meta still sells it at $39.99. It replaces the fabric interface that comes with Quest 3 with one made of soft silicone.

Design and specs

The interface is black silicone throughout. Meta says silicone is stain-resistant and easy to wipe clean, unlike the breathable fabric of the stock interface. It measures 167 x 105 x 94 mm and weighs 80 g, against 65 g for the included interface and 60 g for the Meta Quest 3 Open Facial Interface. It does not use the flexible frame of the newer open interface. The box contains the facial interface and a safety and warranty guide.

Compatibility

Meta lists only Quest 3. It is not listed for the Meta Quest 3S, whose own wipeable option is the Meta Quest 3S Breathable Facial Interface. Meta says the interface can be used with glasses. A headset fitted with it still fits in the Meta Quest 3 Carrying Case, the Carrying Case for Meta Quest 3/3S, the Compact Carrying Case for Meta Quest 3/3S and the Quest 3 Charging Dock.

Use and care

Meta says the interface installs in seconds, stays in place during intense workouts and games, and blocks stray light from entering the headset. After a session you wipe away sweat and dirt, and Meta suggests wiping it before you hand the headset to someone else. In Meta's own comparison, the silicone interface is best for active sessions, the Open Facial Interface for spatial awareness and the included fabric interface for everyday use. Unlike the open and breathable designs, it is not ventilated, so it does not add airflow.

Who it is for

It suits Quest 3 owners who use fitness apps or play intense games, and households, classrooms or demo setups where several people share one headset and the face cushion needs a quick wipe between users. It also keeps the view dark, which matters for games and films. People who mostly want to stay cool or see their surroundings in mixed reality should look at the Meta Quest 3 Open Facial Interface instead.
