Overview
Apple announced the M5 version of Vision Pro on October 15, 2025 and released it on October 22, 2025. The price stayed at $3,499 for 256 GB, with 512 GB and 1 TB options. It replaces the original Apple Vision Pro and keeps the same outer design. The changes are the M5 chip, a higher maximum refresh rate, longer battery life and a new standard band.
Display and optics
The two micro-OLED displays have 23 million pixels in total, with a 7.5-micron pixel pitch and 92 percent DCI-P3 color coverage. The M5 lets them run at 90, 96, 100 or 120 Hz. Apple says 120 Hz reduces motion blur in passthrough and makes Mac Virtual Display feel smoother. The lenses adjust automatically to IPDs from 51 to 75 mm, and ZEISS optical inserts are available for people who wear glasses.
Comfort and design
The new Dual Knit Band adds a second strap over the top of the head and a tungsten counterweight at the back to spread the load. Apple lists the headset at 750 to 800 g with the Light Seal and Dual Knit Band, depending on configuration. The 353 g battery pack connects by cable. It now gives up to 2.5 hours of general use or 3 hours of video, and the headset can run while the pack charges.
Tracking and controllers
Six world-facing tracking cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, a TrueDepth camera and a LiDAR scanner track the room, hands and eyes. The R1 chip keeps photon-to-photon latency at about 12 ms for color passthrough. Input is by eyes, hands and voice. No controllers are included, but visionOS 26 supports the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers in games that use them.
Software and apps
The M5 chip, with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine and 16 GB of memory, runs visionOS. Apps come from the visionOS App Store, and many iPhone and iPad apps also run in windows. Mac Virtual Display gives a Mac a large, curved virtual screen. Safari supports WebXR content. There is no official support for PC VR platforms such as SteamVR.
Who it is for
Vision Pro (M5) suits Apple users who want the sharpest mainstream display for movies, immersive video and work with a Mac, and who value hands-free control over controllers. Its price and weight make it a premium choice. Gamers looking for a broad VR library will find more on other platforms.
