VirtuClear Prescription Lenses for Meta Quest 2
by VirtuClear
Custom prescription lens inserts for Meta Quest 2 from VirtuClear, sold through Frames Direct. They cover nearsighted prescriptions up to -8.00 and fit the original Quest too.
Overview
VirtuClear Lenses are custom prescription lens inserts for the Meta Quest 2. VirtuClear is a brand of the US online optical retailer Frames Direct, which sells the inserts only on FramesDirect.com. Meta's store lists them for Quest 2 but shows no price. Its Learn more button sends you to the Frames Direct page, where the inserts cost $55.99 today. When Facebook first listed them in February 2021, UploadVR reported a starting price of about $80. Frames Direct says it designed the inserts in partnership with Oculus.
Design and specs
The lenses are single vision and made to your eyeglass prescription. Meta lists thin, light 1.60 high-index lenses with anti-reflective and anti-scratch coatings. Frames Direct says they are 1.60 Hi-Index Essilor lenses. The prescription range is narrow. Sphere (SPH) must be between 0 and -8.00, cylinder (CYL) between 0 and -2.00, and total power between 0 and -8.00. That means the inserts only correct nearsightedness, not farsightedness. The box holds two lenses marked R and L, a microfiber cleaning cloth and a lens case. Neither Meta nor Frames Direct gives a weight.
Compatibility
Meta lists the inserts for Quest 2 only. Frames Direct adds that its Quest and Quest 2 inserts work in both of those headsets, but not in others. They do not fit the Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S. For those headsets, Meta sells Zenni MR Prescription Lenses instead, and Zenni's Quest 3S version also fits Quest 2 with a wider prescription range.
Ordering and setup
Frames Direct asks for a copy of a valid prescription from your eye doctor after you place the order. It does not need your pupillary distance, because you set that with the headset's own lens adjustment. Processing takes 7 to 10 business days after Frames Direct confirms the prescription, plus shipping. To fit the inserts, you snap each one onto the headset's viewing optics, using the L and R marks on the plastic rings. Then you adjust the lens spacing for a clear image. Frames Direct notes that the Quest 2 Fit Pack can add comfort. Clean the lenses with a dry microfiber cloth, or a cloth dampened with clean water. Frames Direct warranties the inserts for replacement only, with no refunds.
Who it is for
VirtuClear suits Quest 2 owners who are nearsighted within the -8.00 limit and want to stop wearing glasses in the headset. People with farsighted prescriptions, or stronger astigmatism than -2.00, are outside the range. If you share your Quest 2, you need to take the inserts out between sessions.
