Meta Quest Active Straps

Overview

Meta Quest Active Straps are official knuckle straps for the Touch Plus controllers. They launched on October 10, 2023 at $39.99, alongside the Meta Quest 3, and Meta still sells them at $39.99. They replace the thin wrist lanyards that come with the controllers, so you can open your hands without the controllers dropping or swinging.

Design

Each strap is a sturdy, adjustable band built into a replacement battery cover. The band loops around the back of your hand over the knuckles and fastens to hold the controller in place. Meta says the straps fit most hand sizes and are meant for workouts and fast games. The box includes two Active Straps, one for each hand, plus a quick start guide and a safety and warranty guide. Meta does not publish a weight.

Compatibility

Meta says the straps are only compatible with Touch Plus controllers, which ship with Meta Quest 3 and the Meta Quest 3S. Older Touch controllers and the Touch Pro controllers are not supported. Controllers with Active Straps still fit in the Meta Quest 3 Carrying Case, the Carrying Case for Meta Quest 3/3S, the Compact Carrying Case, the Meta Quest Compact Charging Dock and the Meta Quest 3 Charging Dock.

Setup and use

To install a strap, press the battery cover release button near the thumbstick and remove the cover. Slide the old wrist strap out of its slot. Find the right-hand strap by the R inside its battery cover, slide its metal loop into the wrist strap slot until the tab is fully forward, then refit the cover so the strap forms a loop. Repeat for the left controller. To use them, hold the controller, pull the strap around your knuckles and fasten it. Meta says you should always use either the wrist straps or the Active Straps.

Who it is for

Active Straps suit Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners who play fitness apps, rhythm games or anything with throwing and grabbing. They let you relax your grip without losing the controller. They do not change battery life or tracking, so they will not fix controller tracking problems. They add little for people who mostly use hand tracking or play seated.
