Shooters change a lot in virtual reality. Instead of pointing a crosshair with a mouse, you raise a tracked controller, line up the sights and often reload by ejecting a magazine and inserting a new one by hand. Dodging means physically leaning or ducking.
The genre covers several styles:
- Story campaigns with free movement through levels.
- Arcade and on-rails shooters, where the game moves you forward and you focus on aiming, sometimes to music.
- Stealth and sandbox games that let you choose between combat and other approaches.
Comfort varies widely. Games with smooth joystick movement can be intense for newcomers, so look for teleport, snap-turn and vignette options if you are sensitive to motion. Many shooters carry teen or mature age ratings.
