Rhythm games are one of the genres that made consumer VR take off. Notes, blocks or targets fly toward you in time with a song, and you hit them with tracked controllers while ducking walls and obstacles. Because the whole body is involved, a good session feels part game, part workout.
Most rhythm titles share a few traits:
- Song libraries that grow through paid music packs or free updates.
- Difficulty levels from relaxed to expert for every track.
- Leaderboards and, in many games, online multiplayer.
- Standing play in a small cleared area, with little or no artificial movement, so they suit players prone to motion sickness.
Some games mix rhythm with other genres, such as on-beat shooting or dance-style movement along rails.
