Vertical Shift is a free competitive VR game for Meta Quest where you fly through arenas with grapple hooks, jetpacks and gliders in tag and race modes.
Vertical Shift is a free competitive action game from Corrupted Media Productions, published by Corrupted Media Productions, Inc and also listed under rhythm. The developer pitches it as a VR esport. You wear the Zenith Suit, a movement rig with grapple hooks, jetpacks and gliders, and use it to fly around arenas. It has been on the Meta Horizon Store since December 23, 2021.
How it plays
Everything revolves around mastering the suit: swinging on grapples, boosting with the jetpack and gliding between platforms. There is a single-player mode, but the core of the game is its four multiplayer modes:
- Freeze Tag: two teams play ten-minute matches, and each player has an EMP blast that freezes opponents. A team wins by reaching ten points before the other side.
- Hot Seat: a free-for-all where you tag the golden player to steal the seat and then try to hold it.
- Infection: one infected player starts the round and hunts everyone else.
- Race: swing through an obstacle course and try to cross the line first.
Multiplayer
Each mode supports up to ten players, with crossplay. An internet connection is required for online matches.
Comfort
Meta has not published a comfort rating for Vertical Shift. Flying, swinging and gliding are a lot of artificial movement, so newcomers should read our guide to motion sickness in VR first. The game supports sitting, standing and room-scale play with controllers.
