Space Walk VR Experience is a simulation from Forward Thinking Interactive that takes you outside a spacecraft to float in orbit and get a sense of how big space really is. It has been available on the Meta Horizon Store since March 22, 2021.
How it plays
There are three adventure levels, each with its own goal:
- The Earth: leave the space shuttle and relax while orbiting over any part of the planet. You can change the time of day to watch sunrises or city lights at night, and take on challenges to bring satellites back to the shuttle.
- Save The World!: an asteroid is on course for Earth. Fly through its tunnels, place explosives and destroy it before time runs out, across 15 levels and 3 difficulty settings.
- The Space Station: drift around the outside of the station, watch the working Canadarm robotic arm and HTV cargo ships, and solve a solar panel repair puzzle that changes every time you play.
The game is a mix of calm sightseeing and short challenges, so you can choose between relaxing in orbit and racing the clock.
Comfort
Meta rates it as intense, and the developer is upfront that it may not suit people who get motion sickness in VR. Its tips: switch off the Earth position animations, press the trigger to thrust toward wherever you are looking, and turn slowly. It is played seated, with controllers.
