DrumBeats VR is a drumming rhythm game with arcade action roots, made by Marcel Eissens || VRROOM and published by MESHm. You sit behind a virtual drum kit and keep the beat for each song, either following the game's charts or just jamming freely. It arrived on the Meta Horizon Store on November 29, 2021.
How it plays
The setlist has 21 tracks, and the developer says more are planned. The idea is that you are the rhythm section of the band, playing along to songs while the scene around you changes. There are three ways to play:
- Arcade: drum along to songs made for the game.
- Free play: play any kit in any scene however you like.
- Custom: import your own songs to grow the setlist.
The scenes are a big part of the appeal. You can drum in a Haunted Asylum, a Drum Studio, Antarctica, Hell, the bottom of the ocean, on the Moon or in a Synthwave world.
Four drum kits are included: a Rock Kit and a left-handed Rock Kit, both with layouts you can fully rearrange, plus kits modeled on the sound and setup used by Metallica and by The Rolling Stones.
Comfort
Meta rates DrumBeats VR as moderate in comfort. It works sitting, standing or in room-scale, and you play with controllers as your drumsticks. Sitting down is the most natural fit for a drum kit.
