DAVID is a space wave shooter for Meta Quest where a lone pilot fights enemy fleets and fighters across five galaxies, each ending in a boss ship fight.
DAVID is a classic wave shooter set in space, with action drawn from old arcade games and sci-fi films. It was developed by Bickhofe Games and published by Two Guys. After a long war that seems lost, you are stranded alone in space and fighting for one last chance to survive. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on March 31, 2021.
How it plays
The game has five levels, and each one takes place in a different galaxy. Every level is split into five stages, where you hold off endless enemy fleet ships and waves of fighters until you reach the boss ship at the end.
A story runs alongside the action and introduces new features as you go, pushing your flying skills further. You pick up power-ups and special weapons for both your ship and your support drone. Two special features stand out: a timescale mode and a boss fight where you steer a TV-guided rocket straight into its target.
The presentation includes an original score that Kim Planert wrote and produced in Los Angeles, plus voice acting for the two main characters: pilot Bob Wireback and General Barrick, your science officer, mentor and friend.
Comfort
Meta rates DAVID as comfortable for most people. You can play standing, sitting or in room-scale with controllers, which makes it an easy pick for a seated session.
