Squadron One is an arcade spaceship dogfighting game from United Command, mixing shooter and action play. The developer describes it as free and designed for VR. It was released on the Meta Horizon Store on July 27, 2021.

How it plays

You meet friends or new players at the command table, then launch into battle, grab power-ups and try to outwit everyone else to win the crown, with fireworks to celebrate.

  • deathmatch against other players
  • missions
  • AI practice matches
  • basic training
  • Chill Mode, a free roam with relaxing music

You can fly with manual controls or the controller thumbsticks. Two ships are playable so far, all equally balanced, and the developer says more are on the way and that new features are added regularly.

Multiplayer

The store lists Squadron One as multiplayer only, and an internet connection is required. The command table is where you group up with friends before a match.

Comfort

Meta gives Squadron One a moderate comfort rating. You can play sitting, standing or room-scale with controllers. Dogfighting involves a lot of turning, so take breaks if you notice motion sickness.
