A free set of hand-tracking mini-games with a space theme, built to show what the OctoXR plugin for physics-based hand interactions can do.
Space Arcade VR is a collection of space-themed arcade action mini-games from SpectreXR (OctoXR), a startup that describes itself as based in Croatia. The game is a showcase for OctoXR, the company's own plugin for building hand interactions. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in December 2021.
How it plays
There are no controllers here: the game works only with hand tracking, so you need to turn hand tracking on in your headset settings before launching it. Every interaction in the mini-games uses your bare hands, which is exactly what the plugin is meant to demonstrate.
OctoXR is a low-code plugin for the Unity game engine. According to the developer, it offers ready-made solutions for realistic, physics-based hand interactions, so creators without a deep programming background can build hand-tracked VR experiences faster. The developer also says the whole game took less than a month to make thanks to the plugin, and that OctoXR is sold on the Unity Asset Store.
That background matters when setting expectations. Space Arcade VR is a free tech showcase made of a set of mini-games, not a long game with progression. It is most interesting if you want to see how well hand tracking can handle physical interactions, or if you develop in Unity yourself.
Comfort
SideQuest rates it as comfortable.
