Ascending - Dojo (Alpha Tech Demo) is an action and adventure role-playing game from Selfox, offered on SideQuest as a free demo. Its hook is that abilities are cast by moving your body rather than by pressing a button. The demo is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in August 2021.
How it plays
In the full game, a comet that struck an island centuries ago released cosmic forces that let people develop great powers through an Ascension ceremony. You play a child whose older brother passed the ceremony and then vanished, and now your own ceremony is about to begin.
Each ability has its own sequence of movements. Controller buttons are used only for hand gestures, and haptic and visual feedback is meant to make the power feel like your own. To learn new abilities you enter a deeper state of consciousness, and artifacts, each requiring a set amount of EXP, help you focus that power. Weapons are available alongside abilities, and the island holds secrets, puzzles and hostile creatures.
The demo shows the comet's arrival, teaches three abilities, lets you explore the island before the creatures appear, and gives you a straw training doll to practice on.
