Fly XR is an aerial combat simulation game from Fly XR that puts you in the cockpit of an F-22. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in December 2020.

How it plays

The current game centers on flying the F-22 in combat. The listing keeps the description brief, but its tags point to flight simulation, rockets and shooting, so expect air-to-air action in a single fighter jet rather than a large roster of aircraft.

An update note dated 08/11/22 says development resumed after a long pause and that the team plans to turn Fly XR into a competitive multiplayer dogfight simulator. The next version is listed to add:

  • multiplayer combat
  • voice chat
  • new airplanes
  • new maps

These were plans at the time of that note, so check the current build before expecting them. The developer asks players to leave comments with ideas, feedback and their impressions of the game.

Comfort

SideQuest rates Fly XR as comfortable and marks it as playable seated, which suits a cockpit game where you stay in one place. If flight in VR is new to you, our guide to motion sickness in VR is worth a look.

How to get it and what to know

  • Price: a paid title on SideQuest; the listing data does not include the price.
  • Installed from SideQuest by sideloading; see our guide to sideloading on Meta Quest.
  • Also on itch.io.
  • Supported headsets: Meta Quest headsets such as the Quest 3 and Quest 3S, plus Varjo headsets. The developer also offers it as an Oculus Link and Rift app.
  • Status: early access.
  • SideQuest has fewer than 20 user ratings for it so far.
