Overview

Play For Dream MR is the mixed reality headset from Play For Dream, the company formerly known as YVR. It launched in China in June 2024 and reached Singapore and Malaysia in October 2024. A Kickstarter campaign then brought it to the US and Europe, and it was shown at CES 2025. The company's online store lists the 512 GB model at $1,999. A 1 TB version was offered during the Kickstarter. In late October 2026 the store showed the headset as sold out, but it is still listed with a back-in-stock notice.

Display and optics

Each eye has a 3840 × 3552 micro-OLED display at 3,882 PPI, running at 90 Hz. Pancake lenses give a 103-degree field of view. Eye tracking sets the lens spacing automatically for IPDs from 51 to 78 mm, and custom magnetic prescription lenses are available for near-sighted users.

Comfort and design

The headset weighs 650 g including the battery. Like the Quest Pro, it places the battery at the back of the strap, which leaves the visor at about 288 g by UploadVR's figures. The built-in 5,060 mAh battery supports 30 W fast charging. UploadVR reports just over an hour of use on it, and about 3.5 hours with the included external battery. Inside is a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, plus Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.

Tracking and controllers

Outward-facing cameras and a depth camera provide inside-out tracking and room mapping. A color passthrough camera handles mixed reality, with a claimed latency of 14 ms. Eye-tracking cameras support automatic IPD and foveated rendering, and hand tracking is built in. The two ring-free 6DoF controllers use infrared optical tracking and last up to 35 hours per charge.

Software and apps

The headset runs DreamOS, Play For Dream's own Android-based system, and installs apps from the Play For Dream store. PC VR is a big part of the pitch: Play For Dream's streaming software and Virtual Desktop connect it to a PC over USB or Wi-Fi 7 to play SteamVR games. The optional Dream Box accessory brings flat-screen PC and console games into the headset.

Who it is for

Play For Dream MR suits enthusiasts who want micro-OLED sharpness and eye tracking similar to the Apple Vision Pro for less money, mainly to watch video and stream PC VR. Its own app store is small, and stock and support depend on a young company. Buyers focused on standalone games may prefer the Meta Quest 3.
