Play For Dream
Singapore-based XR hardware company, formerly known as YVR, that makes the Play For Dream MR standalone headset with micro-OLED displays and a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2.
About Play For Dream
Play For Dream is an XR hardware company founded in October 2020. It describes itself as a Singapore company with full-stack research and development for spatial computing, and it also has large operations in Shanghai, China. The business started out under the name YVR and released two standalone VR headsets, YVR 1 in December 2021 and YVR 2 in July 2022, before rebranding as Play For Dream in September 2023.
VR products
The company's flagship is the Play For Dream MR, launched in June 2024. It pairs two micro-OLED displays with a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, 16 GB of RAM, eye tracking and color passthrough, and its design invites comparison with the Apple Vision Pro. The headset was first sold in China, then in parts of Southeast Asia, and it reached the United States and Europe through a Kickstarter campaign and the company's own online store, where it lists at $1,999. Play For Dream showed a new MR prototype at CES 2026.
Platform
Play For Dream headsets run DreamOS, the company's own Android-based system, and install apps from the Play For Dream store. The company also leans on PC VR: its streaming software and support for Virtual Desktop let the MR headset play SteamVR games over a cable or Wi-Fi. The company has said it is working with Google's Android XR team, though its current headset stays on DreamOS for now.
