FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR Leaves Early Access on Steam as Price Rises to $29.99

FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR left early access on Steam on October 23 with its 1.0 update, and its price rose from $19.99 to $29.99, according to UploadVR and VR Today Magazine. The demolition racer was converted to VR by modder Mutar through Flat2VR Studios' Spark program, which pairs VR modders with game developers, and it is the first game released under that program.

What's new in 1.0

  • Overhauled multiplayer with faster lobbies, joining sessions already in progress, AI drivers to fill empty slots, spectating and riding as a passenger
  • Automatic host migration when a host disconnects, per VR Today Magazine
  • First-person driver ejections during stunts and crashes
  • An option to race with FlatOut 2's physics, plus settings for AI behavior
  • Support for bHaptics gear, motion rigs and more steering wheels
  • New vehicles, including several cars and a motorcycle, plus an updated interface, bug fixes and performance improvements

Flat2VR's product page lists 20 destructible tracks and modes including Race, Assault, Arena, Carnage, Time Trial, Stunt Mode and online multiplayer. It also lists support for Logitech, Thrustmaster and Fanatec wheels with force feedback, pedals and manual shifters, alongside motion controls.

Price and platforms

The full release is available on PC VR through SteamVR for $29.99. There is no native Quest version, though Quest 3 owners can play through SteamVR, as GameSpew notes. Flat2VR's page also shows a wishlist button for a PlayStation VR2 version, but no release date has been announced. The game first entered early access in May 2026.

What it means for players

Anyone who bought during early access paid $10 less than new buyers will now. The FlatOut 2 physics toggle is likely to matter most to longtime fans; GameSpew called it "a smart move" given how popular that game remains. A PS VR2 release would bring the game to console players, but Flat2VR has not said when that will happen.
