Smash Drums is a rhythm game from PotamWorks SAS where you play drums along to rock songs and destroy the scenery as you go. It works in both VR and mixed reality, and it adds an action twist: some drums want a light touch, others want to be hammered. It came to the Meta Horizon Store on December 2, 2021.
How it plays
The base game includes 58 rock tracks. Crystal drums need a gentle tap, while burning drums ask you to hit as hard as you can, and the harder you play the more the surroundings fall apart. Single-player stages take you through settings such as a prison, a rock concert and the Moon.
- God of Drums, a campaign mode where you work your way up through drumming challenges.
- Indies, a section with songs from community artists, including bands that bring in their own music.
- A mixed reality mode that lets you smash up your own room.
- A social camera mode for capturing your sessions.
- Live leaderboards (global or friends only), plus unlockable tracks, skins and achievements.
The store page notes that the game was a finalist for AIXR's 2021 VR Game of the Year.
Multiplayer
A multiplayer arena holds between 2 and 8 drummers, with co-op and versus modes.
Comfort
Meta rates Smash Drums as comfortable for most people, since you stay in one spot behind the kit. You can play seated or standing, with controllers. On Meta Quest 2 the mixed reality mode shows black-and-white passthrough.
