PHIN: Physics Sandbox ALPHA is a simulation sandbox from I3Llamas, a solo developer. Everything in it runs on physics, from your own body to the machines you put together. The build on offer, Playtest #2 (PT-2), is distributed through SideQuest, where PHIN was first listed in December 2021.
How it plays
There is no set goal. You mess around in an open playground, assembling vehicles and flying machines, shoving ragdolls and seeing how parts behave together. The listing summary names the toys and building blocks on hand:
- A physics-driven player body
- Ragdolls to push and throw around
- Vehicles, rockets and motors
- Balloons
- Guns
Because there are no levels to clear, how long it holds your attention depends on how much you enjoy tinkering and testing ideas.
Comfort
SideQuest rates comfort as intense, which fits a game where your body and your creations move under physics. If you are sensitive to that, see our guide to motion sickness in VR.
How to get it and what to know
- It is free, and the developer says PT-2 will remain available at no cost for the foreseeable future.
- It is installed from SideQuest by sideloading; see our guide to sideloading on Meta Quest.
- Supported headsets: Meta Quest headsets such as the Quest 3 and Quest 3S. The developer warns that the original Quest may hit performance problems because the game was not properly optimized for it.
- It is an early access alpha. After close to two years of solo work, the developer has paused development and is looking at ways the community could build on the project.
- Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 169 SideQuest users.
