Motion sickness in VR
Còn gọi là VR sickness, cybersickness, simulator sickness, VR nausea
VR motion sickness is nausea, dizziness or sweating that happens when your eyes see movement your body does not feel, most often during artificial movement with a thumbstick.
Many people feel some discomfort in VR at first, often called VR sickness, cybersickness or simulator sickness. Typical signs are nausea, dizziness, a warm or sweaty feeling, headache and eye strain. Symptoms can linger for a while after you take the headset off.
Why it happens
The most widely accepted explanation is sensory conflict. When you glide forward with a thumbstick, your eyes report motion but your inner ear, which senses balance and acceleration, reports that you are standing still. The brain struggles with the mismatch. Smooth turning, sudden acceleration, bumpy camera motion, low frame rates, high latency and a poorly fitted headset all make it worse.
What helps
- Stop at the first sign of discomfort; pushing through usually makes it worse.
- Start with short sessions and games that use teleport movement or no artificial movement at all.
- Turn on comfort settings such as snap turning and vignettes.
- Make sure the image is sharp by fitting the headset and setting your IPD.
- Play seated for movement-heavy games, keep the room cool, and point a fan at yourself.
- Choose games and settings that keep the frame rate smooth.
Many people build tolerance over time with gradual exposure, but some never fully do. If symptoms are strong or persist, take a longer break and talk to a doctor if you have concerns, especially about balance or vision.
