HTC

The Taiwanese company behind the VIVE headsets, from the original 2016 HTC Vive built with Valve to today's VIVE Focus Vision, and the Viveport app store.

About HTC

HTC is a Taiwanese electronics company founded in 1997. It became known for smartphones and has focused increasingly on VR under its VIVE brand. In 2016, HTC and Valve launched the original HTC Vive, one of the first consumer PC VR headsets with room-scale tracking from Valve's base stations. In early 2025, HTC agreed to let Google hire part of its XR engineering team while keeping its own VIVE business.

VR hardware

HTC's VIVE range includes PC VR headsets such as the VIVE Pro series and standalone headsets for consumers and businesses. Its current hybrid model is the HTC VIVE Focus Vision, released in October 2024 at $999. It runs standalone apps, streams PC VR over Wi-Fi, and offers a DisplayPort mode for uncompressed wired PC VR. It has eye tracking, color passthrough and a hot-swappable battery. HTC also sells VIVE trackers and business services for training, location-based entertainment and enterprise use.

Platform

HTC runs Viveport, a store for PC VR games and for apps on VIVE standalone headsets. VIVE PC headsets also work with SteamVR, so most owners use both stores.
