Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars launches in mixed reality on November 12
Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars launches in mixed reality on November 12, 2026, with Rocky, Quest 3, 3S and Pico 4 support.

Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is Maze Theory’s mixed-reality adventure, launching globally on November 12, 2026. Players take the role of Ryland Grace, work alongside Rocky and try to keep the Hail Mary alive. A free VR update will follow shortly after launch.
Repairing the Hail Mary with Rocky
Grace is the lone survivor of the Hail Mary mission. When critical systems begin to fail, players must diagnose problems, improvise solutions and apply science and engineering to keep the spacecraft functioning.
Rocky is an alien intelligence with his own desperate mission. The story follows an unlikely partnership between the human astronaut and Rocky, as cooperation, ingenuity and evolving trust bring two species together. Maze Theory describes the experience as a narrative-driven adventure built around cooperative problem-solving.
That cooperation happens between Grace and Rocky within the story. The announcement does not confirm that a second human player can join, so multiplayer is not established.
An original chapter in Andy Weir’s universe
Maze Theory presents the game as a new original narrative created specifically for mixed reality. It takes place during a pivotal, untold chapter of the mission and expands the Project Hail Mary universe into immersive media.
Fans of Andy Weir’s novel and its film adaptation will recognize Ryland Grace, Rocky and the Hail Mary. The experience is not described as a scene-by-scene retelling. Maze Theory calls it a new original story from Andy Weir, while Weir describes it as the first step beyond the book and movie that fans can experience in mixed reality.
The project launches globally following the Amazon MGM Studios feature film. Official material also references a first-look reaction from Andy Weir, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Mixed reality first, VR later
The November 12 release is the mixed-reality version. It brings the virtual spacecraft into the player’s physical surroundings through the headset’s view of the real environment, making the room part of the presentation.
Maze Theory has shown ship interiors, equipment interaction and the emergency players are expected to tackle. Those materials show the intended format, but they do not establish the experience’s final length or explain how every puzzle will work.
The separately announced free VR update will provide a fully virtual direction. Maze Theory says it will follow shortly after launch, but its official game page gives no release date. Players seeking that presentation must wait for further information.
Supported headsets
Maze Theory’s announced platform list includes Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S and Pico 4. Other platforms are to be confirmed. Headset owners should check their own store’s compatibility listing rather than assume every Quest or Pico model is supported.
For launch, the key distinction is mode: the available release is mixed reality, while the separate fully virtual version will arrive through the later free VR update.
The project was covered by MIXED in a report dated November 6, 2026. Image credits supplied with that report are Maze Theory / Amazon MGM Studios.
