Combat Waffle Studios Is Retiring Silent North, but Servers Will Stay Online for Now

Combat Waffle Studios is retiring Silent North, its online VR survival game set in the Swiss Alps. The studio plans to remove it from sale on all storefronts while keeping its online servers active for now. No final server shutdown date has been announced.

The end of sales and the end of online service are separate steps. The announcement does not confirm how long the servers will remain available, whether current owners will retain access after sales end, or whether an offline replacement will be provided.

Sales will end before a confirmed shutdown

Combat Waffle Studios says Silent North will be withdrawn across all platforms. Its servers have not been announced as shut down, but the studio has not supplied a date for their eventual closure. It has also not announced an offline replacement or confirmed that another server option exists today.

The Steam listing may not change at the same time as the studio's announcement. Steam currently lists the game at 19,90€ and shows 101 user reviews, with 26% marked positive. That listing and price do not confirm how long sales will continue or whether availability outside Steam will match.

Players who already own the game should follow future announcements rather than assume online access will continue indefinitely. Prospective buyers should treat a visible store listing as separate from any promise about the service's remaining lifespan.

What Silent North offers

Silent North entered Steam Early Access on April 8, 2025. It is a VR-only game with online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer. Its setting is a snowy survival world in the Swiss Alps.

Players gather equipment and essential supplies, build shelter and scavenge for gear. They can play alone or team up while facing infected enemies and other players. The format combines player-versus-player and player-versus-environment threats in an unpredictable, changing landscape that requires adaptation and resilience.

The older Early Access description mentioned possible future features such as player-hosted custom servers. Steam warns that this information may be out of date. A feature described as a future plan is not confirmation that player-hosted servers or another alternative system exists today.

Why Combat Waffle Studios says it is ending the project

Combat Waffle Studios says it was pushed to release Silent North earlier than it wanted. The studio links that early launch to a high early refund rate and a poor reputation.

The announcement does not identify who pushed for the release and gives no refund percentage or total. The developer says it was unable to rebuild momentum after the initial setback. It thanks players for supporting the project and describes leaving the game behind as a difficult decision.

MIXED reported the retirement on November 6, 2026. Its report described the game as an online VR survival title set in the Swiss Alps and said the servers would remain online for now before an eventual shutdown. The report gave no final shutdown date.

The official Steam News announcement is titled “Silent North - Silent North is Coming to an End.” Its stated change is planned removal from sale, not a completed server shutdown. The date when sales will end and the date when servers will close both remain unspecified.
