VRChat Announces Twelve Spookality 2026 World Jam Winners
VRChat selected twelve horror worlds as winners of its Spookality 2026 World Jam. This VRChat showcase follows the Camp Whispering Screams theme, a tribute to 1980s horror, and keeps the winning worlds available through November 2, 2026.
The twelve winning worlds
OVERDUE by randomlight1 takes place at Camp Hollow Pines in 1983. Its library remains open late. Players search for requested books, identify fake copies and stay still when the Counselor counts. The lantern burns only outside the Reading Room. The world supports two to six players, lasts 30 to 45 minutes and has no HUD.
Lunar Falls: BlackMoon by Salena and Popstep is set in a town shaped by an old legend. Its central instruction is simple: stay in the light. A session lasts about 30 to 40 minutes and supports up to six players.
AFTER THE FIRE by Pasyl is set in 1987, after five campers vanish. Players find their photographs in the forest and carry them back to the fire, alive. The world supports Korean, Japanese and English.
MOSSMOUTH by flipbits casts players as search-and-rescue divers looking for a missing boy. The adventure lasts one to two hours and draws inspiration from SOMA. It is flipbits’ first adventure map, pieced together from earlier adventure-map attempts.
They are Hunting You by Bella Strange~ is a rhythm roguelite for up to 16 players. Its design combines fear of dolls, Crypt of the NecroDancer and Weeping Angels. A full run contains 21 rounds and takes about an hour. Players can save mid-run, while the menu can disable strobe lights and insects.
DEADLIGHT by team BombaeVRC is cooperative survival horror for up to 12 players. It supports six languages.
Zombies of VRC by SilentLurkers features endless waves, guns, doors and the ability to revive downed friends. The world supports up to 35 players.
Sanguisthesia by Superfriend features a fiend that sees only movement and lives in the wells. Players can seal the wells through rituals or play as the fiend and drag friends into danger. It supports 32 players and lists 29 languages, including TOK, the code for Toki Pona.
八字 by Pache1bel supports up to four players. Its concept uses the Eight Characters, a Chinese birth-date system, and the bone-weighing method associated with Yuan Tiangang.
Spider Veins: PROJECT AUGUST by rollthered is set in an Antarctic research facility after management disappears. Its tags reference John Carpenter and PS1.
TERRAMINE by DeMünu places players in the role of a technician sent to repair mining robots. It supports eight players and uses handmade models and textures by _Kokos_.
EEK! Shadow Creatures! by honsler centers on a flashlight, a dark facility and a maze. Its listing states that no generative AI was used.
Rules, dates and access
The Spookality 2026 World and Avatar Jam accepted submissions from September 3 through October 1. Its showcase period runs from October 16 through November 2. Each world needed a Safe Zone where players could recover from danger. Examples include OVERDUE’s lantern and the campfire in AFTER THE FIRE.
The world rule required worlds to be cross-platform for PC, Android and iOS. This requirement applied to worlds, not every entry in the wider event. A headset is not required to access the showcase. Players can use a Quest headset, a PICO headset, a PC with or without VR, or an Android or iOS phone.
VRChat is free on Steam, the Meta Horizon Store, PICO, Google Play and the App Store. The winners page places an Open in VRChat button beside each world, while the twelve worlds appear together in a row inside the app during the showcase.
VRChat’s official announcement scheduled a special ceremony for October 24 at 12pm PT. The stream featured the top three worlds and avatars. The official forum post lists the twelve winning worlds alphabetically. VRChat’s Spookality winners page places DEADLIGHT, OVERDUE and MOSSMOUTH first, without describing that order as a ranking.
Visits and favorites
VRChat’s public API recorded about 1.79 million visits across the twelve winners on October 31. A visit means an entry into a world, not a unique person, so repeat visits and group replays count again.
DEADLIGHT recorded 1,089,843 visits, about 61 percent of the combined total and roughly ten times the 106,756 visits recorded by Zombies of VRC, the next world. EEK! Shadow Creatures! had the smallest reported total at 14,291 visits.
Favorites showed a different pattern. They are Hunting You had 2,209 favorites from 21,589 visits, or about one favorite for every ten visits. DEADLIGHT had about one favorite for every 32 visits.
VR.org News reported these figures on October 31. The world descriptions and play details come from creator listings, so they describe what makers promise rather than independent play testing. The top-three order was shown during a Twitch stream on October 24, but no written source found for this report records that order.
Related Avatar Jam winners
The related Spookality Avatar Jam used the theme “In the Safe Zone.” Its survivor concept covered an apocalypse, massacre, zombie uprising, weird cult or abandoned space station, while keeping the wider 1980s theme.
The listed avatar winners are Jamie: Star of Wreck ‘N’ Roller by Nina Nonagon, Princess Tomoko by SirBubbinator, Reilynn The Werewolf by NyakumaEmi, The Solitary Spaceman vs the RapTrons by Whaddageek and Tom - Survivor by lackofbindings.
All qualifying avatars appear in the Spookality Hub world, with the twelve winners shown first. The twelve winners receive a one-year VRC+ subscription that can be split with up to four people, a special Spookality 2026 badge that can be granted to up to five team members, fast-tracking into the Avatar Marketplace Seller Program if they are not already enrolled, a place in a special Spookality public avatars row and a place in the Hub world mirror during the showcase period.
