Comfort settings
別名:comfort options, comfort mode, vignette, tunneling, teleport locomotion
Comfort settings are in-game and system options, such as teleport movement, snap turning and vignettes, that reduce motion sickness and make VR easier for more people to enjoy.
Comfort settings are options that change how a VR game moves you or shows motion, with the goal of reducing motion sickness. Most modern games include a comfort menu, and some headsets offer system-wide settings too.
Common comfort options
- Teleport movement: point to a spot and jump there instantly instead of gliding. Because you see no continuous motion, there is little sensory conflict.
- Snap turning: rotate in fixed steps rather than smoothly.
- Vignette or tunneling: darkens or blurs the edges of your view while you move, since peripheral motion is a strong trigger for discomfort.
- Movement speed: slower smooth locomotion is easier to tolerate.
- Seated mode and height adjustment: lets you play sitting down with your in-game height corrected.
- Head-based or hand-based direction: chooses whether you move where you look or where you point.
Comfort ratings
Some stores label games by how intense their motion is. Meta's store, for instance, uses comfort ratings such as Comfortable, Moderate and Intense. These are a helpful guide when you are new.
Tip
Begin with the most comfortable options and relax them one at a time as you get used to VR, rather than starting with smooth turning at full speed.
