VAIL is a competitive multiplayer tactical shooter and social combat hub developed and published by AEXLAB for Meta Quest and PC VR. Built specifically around physical VR gunplay—manual magazine swaps, bolt manipulation, crisp sight alignment and spatial footsteps—VAIL pairs a free-to-play entry experience with a full competitive multiplayer suite.
Modes and progression
VAIL splits its experience into free-access modes and an optional one-time upgrade for traditional ranked and casual playlists:
- Social Hub (Free): Hang out in the central hub, test weapons at the range, challenge other players to 1v1 duels, and mine ORE shards in the quarry to earn cosmetics.
- Training Grounds (Free): Drop straight into fast-paced gunfights across rotating maps with weapon pickups and loadout modifiers.
- Extraction (Free Early Access): Descend into Reyn to scavenge encrypted data, tech and resources while fighting past autonomous security drones and rival squads before extracting.
- VAIL Combat (Paid Upgrade): Unlocks 10+ core multiplayer modes—including Search and Destroy (Artifact), Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint and Free-for-All—along with full weapon progression, eight prestige tiers, leaderboards and competitive matchmaking.
Comfort and cross-platform play
Meta rates VAIL as Moderate comfort, offering customizable smooth locomotion, snap/smooth turning and comfort options across seated, standing and room-scale play. Cross-play connects players across standalone Quest headsets and PC VR.
Platforms and pricing
- Meta Quest: Free base download on the Meta Horizon Store (~8.5 GB installed), with VAIL Combat and cosmetics available as in-app purchases.
- PC VR: Available on SteamVR with cross-platform matchmaking and 12 supported interface languages.
