Backrooms is a horror game from Esyverse (IEP) built on the Backrooms creepypasta. The developer sums it up as a small horror game played with the lights fully on. It is distributed through SideQuest, where it was first listed in June 2021.

How it plays

You wander a maze of empty, randomly divided rooms lit by buzzing fluorescent tubes, with damp carpet and walls in a single shade of yellow. The goal is to find the exit. You are not alone, though: the developer hints that certain "friends" in the rooms would rather you stayed, and if you do not wake up in time, the nightmare closes in.

The appeal is atmosphere more than action. The game leans on the uneasy, nostalgic feeling of being lost in a space that seems to go on forever, where every room looks like the last one and a sound nearby could mean you have been noticed. The listing's tags point to exploration and escape as the main activities.

Comfort

SideQuest rates comfort as comfortable, and the listing marks the game as playable seated, which suits players who want to explore without standing for long.
