Overview
Specs are the first augmented reality glasses that Snap sells to consumers. Snap announced them at AWE on June 16, 2026, and opened pre-orders with a refundable $200 deposit. They cost $2,195, or $2,395 in a bundle with the Connected Case, which charges the glasses and adds a cellular connection for a monthly data fee. Specs are due to ship in fall 2026 in the US, the UK and France, but Snap has not given an exact date and says it will contact buyers closer to the shipping window. In October, Snap named Robert Downey Jr. honorary Chief Customer Experience Officer for Specs.
Display and optics
Specs use see-through waveguides, lenses with billions of nanostructures that place images over your view of the real world. Snap gives a 51-degree field of view, comparable to a 115-inch screen about ten feet away, with 16 million colors. Road to VR reports that the projectors are LCoS displays. The lenses tint automatically in bright light. Snap has not published the resolution or brightness.
Comfort and design
Everything sits in the frame, with no puck or cable. The Swiss TR90 polymer frame comes in two sizes: Narrow Fit at 47 mm weighs 132 g, and Wide Fit at 52 mm weighs 136 g. Swappable nose pads help with fit, and removable prescription inserts are supported. Stereo speakers and six microphones sit in the arms. Road to VR lists battery life as up to four hours of mixed use, and up to 20 hours with the charging case.
Tracking and controllers
There are no controllers. You control Specs with hand tracking and voice, and cameras on the frame track the glasses' position so that virtual objects stay fixed in the room. Two Qualcomm Snapdragon chips share the work, and Road to VR gives a motion-to-photon latency of 7 ms. A recording light shows when the cameras are capturing.
Software and apps
Specs run Snap OS, and apps are Lenses built with Snap's Lens Studio. Snap highlights a large virtual screen for streaming, heads-up walking directions, live translation in dozens of languages, a shared whiteboard, NBA and Harry Potter Lenses, and multiplayer Connected Lenses. Specs Intelligence, Snap's AI service, suggests help based on what you are doing, and a Travel Mode keeps content steady in moving vehicles.
Who it is for
Specs suit early adopters who want true AR glasses that work on their own, without a phone or puck. At $2,195 they cost far more than display glasses or VR headsets, and battery life and outdoor visibility remain unknown until independent reviews arrive.
