Valve's Steam Frame Launches at $1,059, With Some Orders Now Pushed Into 2027

Valve's first standalone headset is finally on sale, but getting one is another matter. On September 14, 2026, the company revealed pricing for the Steam Frame and opened a reservation system on its Steam Frame store page. A few weeks later, Valve told buyers that part of the queue will not be served until next year.

Prices and what is in the box

  • 256GB model: $1,059 in the US (£889 in the UK, €1,049 in the EU)
  • 1TB model: $1,299 (£1,089, €1,279)
  • Accessories: a 45W power supply for $29, an Ergonomic Accessories Kit for $59 and an Accessory Replacement Kit for $49

Both kits ship with the headset, its controllers, a wireless PC streaming adapter and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx. A power supply is not included; Valve says a Steam Deck charger or any USB-C charger rated at 45W or more will work. The headset runs SteamOS on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip with 16GB of RAM and a 2160 × 2160 LCD panel per eye, and both storage tiers can be expanded with microSD.

A lottery instead of first come, first served

Rather than open regular pre-orders, Valve collected sign-ups until September 17 at 10 AM Pacific and then randomized the list, a step meant to blunt resellers. Each applicant was told whether they had a reservation or a waitlist spot, and the first purchase emails went out from September 18, as Road to VR reported at launch.

The queue now reaches into 2027

In an early October update, Valve added an expected order window to the Steam Frame product page for logged-in reservation holders. According to Road to VR, each holder now sees one of two answers: an order email by December, or one in 2027. People in the 2027 group are promised more precise timing by January. Each region runs its own queue, waitlist places are handled in sign-up order, and Valve says nobody on the waitlist will jump ahead of someone who already holds a reservation.

What it means for buyers

If you hold a reservation, check the Steam Frame page while signed in to see which group you are in, and watch for the purchase email. If you are on the waitlist, there is no date yet. The Steam Frame plays native VR games and most of the flat Steam library on its own, and streams from a PC through SteamVR, so PC VR owners on older hardware such as the Valve Index may need to keep using it for a while longer.
