Wireless PC streaming
También conocido como Air Link, Steam Link, Virtual Desktop, wireless PC VR, PC VR streaming
Wireless PC streaming sends PC VR games from a computer to a standalone headset over Wi-Fi, using tools like Air Link, Steam Link or Virtual Desktop, so you can play without a cable.
Wireless PC streaming lets a standalone headset act as a cable-free PC VR headset. The computer renders each frame, compresses it into a video stream and sends it over your home Wi-Fi. The headset decodes the video, shows it, and sends your head and controller movements back to the PC.
Popular options for Meta Quest
- Air Link: built into Quest and paired through Meta's Meta Horizon Link app on Windows.
- Steam Link: Valve's free app for Quest, which connects straight to SteamVR without Meta's PC software.
- Virtual Desktop: a paid app that also supports several PICO, HTC and other headsets and is known for its many tuning options.
What makes it work well
- Connect the PC to the router with an Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi.
- Connect the headset to a 5 GHz network, ideally Wi-Fi 6 or 6E, and keep the router in the same room with a clear line of sight.
- Avoid busy networks and other heavy downloads while playing.
Trade-offs
Compression can add slight blur or blockiness in fast scenes, and streaming adds some latency compared with a direct cable. Poor Wi-Fi shows up as stutters or artifacts. For many players, the freedom of no cable is worth it, and modern setups get close to wired quality.
