Puzzling Places is a 3D jigsaw puzzle game developed and published by Realities.io, a studio in Berlin. After a beta on SideQuest and App Lab, it fully launched on Quest on September 2, 2021. It came to PlayStation VR in December 2021 and PlayStation VR2 on February 22, 2023, and it is also on the PICO Store and Apple Vision Pro. In April 2026 it arrived on Steam, playable in VR or on a flat screen, and it is verified for Steam Frame. The studio says it has reached about 400,000 VR players.

How it plays

Each puzzle is a miniature diorama of a real place, built from photogrammetry scans, which you rebuild from 3D pieces in front of you. Places range from cities and temples to landscapes and interiors, and each one has its own soundscape that grows as you finish it. Puzzles come in several sizes, from 25 pieces for a short session up to 1,000 pieces for multi-hour builds. There is no timer or score. Extra puzzle packs are sold as add-ons, and new ones are added regularly.

A free update in October 2023 added two-player online co-op, mixed reality with passthrough and local co-op in the same room on Quest, hand tracking, and eye tracking on Quest Pro. Co-op later came to PS VR2 and PICO with cross-play.

Comfort

Meta rates it comfortable. There is no locomotion, and you can play seated, standing or in room scale. Features such as Force-Pull, piece groups and a see-through mode reduce reaching and searching.

What to know before buying

  • It supports solo play and two-player co-op; the Steam flat-screen mode has no multiplayer.
