Moss

von Polyarc

A storybook action-puzzle adventure where you guide Quill, a brave young mouse, through diorama-like levels while helping her from above.

Moss is an action-adventure and puzzle game from Seattle studio Polyarc. It launched on the original PlayStation VR in February 2018 and later came to Quest, SteamVR, the PICO Store and PlayStation VR2.

How it plays

Moss uses a third-person view that suits VR unusually well. Each scene is a detailed miniature world laid out in front of you like a pop-up book. You control Quill, a small mouse hero, with the thumbstick and buttons, guiding her as she runs, jumps, climbs and fights. At the same time you act as the Reader, a separate presence in the world: you reach into the scene to move blocks, pull levers, hold enemies in place and heal Quill.

Combining those two roles is the heart of the puzzles. Levels are short and the campaign is compact, with a story told by a narrator in storybook style. It was followed by Moss: Book II in 2022.

Comfort

Because the camera stays fixed in each scene and you never move through the world yourself, Moss is one of the most comfortable VR games. Meta rates it comfortable, and it is designed to be played seated or standing.

Platform notes

  • A free update in September 2024 raised the resolution on Quest 3 and Quest 3S and added an option to skip combat.
  • The PS VR2 version adds eye tracking that highlights the objects you look at, headset haptics and adaptive triggers.
  • The PlayStation Store also sells it in a bundle with Moss: Book II.

What to know before buying

The list price is $19.99 on the Meta Horizon Store, Steam, PICO and the PlayStation Store. Polyarc closed in September 2026, so no further updates should be expected, but the game remains on sale. It is single-player and rated PEGI 7, making it a good pick for families.
