PlayStation Store

What it is

The PlayStation Store is Sony's digital shop for PlayStation consoles. For VR, it is where owners of Sony PlayStation VR2 buy and download games for the PS5. The PS VR2 catalog includes Sony titles such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, games with optional VR modes such as Gran Turismo 7, and many games from independent studios that also release on other VR platforms.

Headsets that use it

PS VR2 is the only current headset that uses the PlayStation Store. The headset plugs into a PS5, and games run on the console. The original PlayStation VR for PS4 had its own catalog, and PS VR2 does not play those older PS VR games.

Buying and installing

You can buy on the console, in the PlayStation App on a phone or on the PlayStation Store website, and purchases download to the PS5. Many PS VR2 games are also sold on disc. Some publishers offer a free or low-cost upgrade from a PS4 PS VR version to the PS VR2 version. The store labels VR-required games and games with optional VR modes.

Notable traits

Games bought on the PlayStation Store work only on PlayStation hardware. When PS VR2 is connected to a PC through Sony's adapter, it uses SteamVR and the Steam library instead, so purchases do not carry over between the two.
