About Sony
Sony was founded in Tokyo in 1946 and is now a group spanning electronics, image sensors, music, movies and games. Its game business, Sony Interactive Entertainment, runs PlayStation, including the PlayStation 5 console, the PlayStation Network and a group of in-house game studios.
VR hardware
Sony has made console VR headsets since 2016, when the original PlayStation VR launched for the PS4. Its current headset is Sony PlayStation VR2, released in February 2023 for the PS5. It has OLED displays with HDR, eye tracking for foveated rendering, inside-out tracking and Sense controllers with adaptive triggers. Sony lowered its US price to $399.99 in March 2025. Since 2024, an official adapter has let PS VR2 work as a PC VR headset with SteamVR.
Games and platform
PS VR2 games are sold through the PlayStation Store. Sony's studios develop and publish VR titles such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Gran Turismo 7 includes a full VR mode on PS VR2. Sony's PlayStation Sense controllers also gained support on Apple Vision Pro with visionOS 26.
