British racing game studio founded in 1986 by the Darling brothers and part of Electronic Arts since 2021, known for the DiRT, DiRT Rally, F1 and EA SPORTS WRC games.
Codemasters is a British video game developer and publisher founded in 1986 by brothers David and Richard Darling, with help from their father. The studio is based in Southam, Warwickshire, in England.
Over the decades Codemasters became one of the best-known names in racing games. Its work includes the Colin McRae Rally series, the DiRT and DiRT Rally games, the official F1 games and EA SPORTS WRC.
In late 2020 Take-Two Interactive and Electronic Arts both bid for the company. EA won with a deal worth about $1.2 billion that closed on February 18, 2021, and Codemasters now works under the EA Sports banner.
For VR players, its most notable PC title is DiRT Rally 2.0, which added VR support in a free update in August 2019 for SteamVR headsets and the Oculus Rift.
