Meta Unveils 100-Gram 'VR Glasses' for $1,299.99, Launching in Spring 2027

Meta's next VR device is not a Quest. At its Connect keynote on September 23, 2026, the company introduced Meta VR Glasses, a glasses-style headset that moves the heavy parts into a separate puck. In its official announcement, Meta lists a price of $1,299.99 and says the device goes on sale in spring 2027.

Hardware at a glance

  • Weight: about 100 grams on the face, which Meta says is five times lighter than Meta Quest 3
  • Display: a "5K" micro-OLED system at 37 pixels per degree, with compact pancake lenses and Dolby Vision support
  • Audio: Dolby Atmos spatial audio built into the frames
  • Compute: Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite, housed in a puck that also holds the battery and storage and links to the glasses over an optical tether
  • Battery: up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback, with 45W fast charging
  • Input: voice, eye tracking and hand gestures, with no controllers required

Built for watching, with games on the side

Meta pitches the device first as a personal screen. It calls it the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device and lists apps from Prime Video, YouTube, Peacock, HBO Max, Paramount+ and others. Disney+ 3D titles arrive from November in select countries, James Cameron's Lightstorm Vision plans 3D releases for 2027, and Meta promises more than 100 immersive live sports events a year with partners such as MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports and UFC.

For games, Meta says more than 75 titles will be playable with hand gestures at launch, plus Xbox Cloud Gaming. In a separate games post, the company adds that every Quest game will be playable on Meta VR Glasses with Touch Plus controllers, which are sold separately.

What it means for Quest owners

Meta did not announce a new Quest headset or any Quest price change at Connect, so Quest 3 and Quest 3S remain its current headsets. Because the Quest library carries over, games bought today should still be usable on the new device. Preorders have not opened yet, and Meta has not shared an exact launch date or pricing outside the US.
