Forefront Adds Operation: Sandstorm Update With Breakthrough Mode and New Weapons on October 29, 2026. The release adds Breakthrough, the FMS rifle, Forefront’s first melee weapon, Knife, and progression-based rewards. PICO listed Forefront version 7.1.0 and Operation: Sandstorm Premium on October 30, 2026.
Operation: Sandstorm rewards and challenges
Operation: Sandstorm introduces Operations, a progression system similar to a battle pass. Daily and weekly challenges grant XP or points that players can use on free rewards. Premium rewards include character and vehicle skins, weapon patterns, player cards, charms, emblems, new weapons and more.
Operation: Sandstorm Premium costs EUR 9.99 on Steam. The update adds the FMS rifle and Knife as unlockable weapons. It also adds gun mastery for FMS; this does not affect T5 and T6 unlocks for base-game guns.
Character and vehicle skin selection now appears in the loadout menu. The My Soldier view can sort items by unlock requirement, and loadouts gain a melee weapon slot. bHaptics support covers TactSuit vests, TactSleeve and TactVisor.
Breakthrough mode and Knife combat
Breakthrough combines elements of Conquest and Rush. Attackers push through a sector by capturing every point, overwhelming defenders and conquering the map. Defenders must retain control of their sectors.
The mode is available on Tunnels, Siberia, Mauritania and Fjord. Knife-only movement is faster. Knife kills award extra score, mark victims as executed and block revives. A player also receives ammunition after killing an enemy with Knife.
Combat, network and interface updates
Server performance and network bandwidth received improvements. The update adds separate movement-slow statistics for each weapon category while firing. For example, SMGs have less slowing than LMGs.
Foveated rendering on Steam Frame is improved. Voice chat and its error handling receive changes, and the game remembers whether the laser was enabled after respawn.
Fixed issues include grabbed equipment releasing at random or swapping hands; loadouts failing to save between matches after a new unlock; claymore and anti-tank mine kills counting as air kills during parachuting; voice-restricted players being unable to hear others; respawned characters retaining an old corpse ragdoll; onboarding softlocks after closing the game during username selection; entire parties being kicked when a leader receives errors; and broken controller rebinding.
Further fixes address jitter in the Qilin reload animation, teleportation after collisions with friendly vehicles, LMG fire-rate discrepancies compared with ARs, drone-spotting inconsistencies, and Spawn Beacon knobs that could not turn 360 degrees.
C4 detonations now award kills instead of only assists where applicable. C4 attached to a vehicle no longer acts as a shield against tank or RPG shots. Other fixes cover Stim inconsistencies inside transport helicopters, stim-gun reload mispredictions, missing fighter-jet crash sounds, shooting through Little Bird bodies to hit pilots from below, and stuttering unoccupied vehicles that are still moving.
Map and vehicle fixes
Map fixes address characters getting stuck on pillars on Karst, gaps and holes on Fjord, players reaching the water plane beneath Oasis, and locations where players could fall through floors across several maps. The update also fixes idle vehicle damage on Paradise.
Name tags above ragdolls now appear more consistently when a player is standing nearby.
Forefront setting and platform details
Steam describes Forefront as a VR shooter with 32-player battles, land, sea and air vehicles, and tactical combat. Its setting is 2035. O.R.E., a global energy corporation, uses a private military to protect its monopoly on Red Orpiment, a rare mineral intended to power the world. Local governments and resistance forces fight to reclaim control.
PICO describes cross-platform 32-player battles, expansive maps and semi-destructible environments. Players can choose Assault, Engineer, Medic or Sniper. Each class has specialised weapons, attachments and gadgets unlocked through soldier and class levels. The game includes land, sea and air vehicles, including helicopters, tanks, humvees, quads and boats.
Forefront is available on Quest, Steam and PICO. UploadVR listed a PlayStation VR2 release for November 5, 2026. Steam lists Triangle Factory as developer and publisher, an Early Access date of November 6, 2025, and a full release date of April 23, 2026.
PICO lists Forefront at EUR 14.99 and Operation: Sandstorm Premium at EUR 9.99. Supported play modes are Standing and Sitting. Supported platforms are PICO 4 Ultra, PICO 4, PICO 4 Pro and PICO Space Pro, with PICO controllers. PICO categorises the game as Shooter, Realism, Action and Strategy, lists user interaction and in-game purchases, and reports that very few users report motion sickness.
Steam shows 70% positive ratings from 62 reviews in the last 30 days and 83% positive ratings from 1,283 reviews overall.
