Free multiplayer tag where you move as a gorilla by pushing off the ground with your arms. Lobbies of up to 10, with many maps and modes.
Gorilla Tag is a social multiplayer game from Another Axiom. It appeared in early access in February 2021 and grew into one of the most played VR games, passing 10 million users and $100 million in revenue by mid-2024.
How it plays
Gorilla Tag has no joystick movement and no buttons for walking. You play as a legless gorilla and move by pushing your hands against the ground, walls and trees, swinging your arms to run, leap and climb. The system is easy to learn and has a high skill ceiling, with experienced players moving extremely fast.
The main modes are versions of playground games:
- Tag and Infection, where tagged players join the hunting team.
- Newer modes such as Ghost Reactor, Hoverboard Racing, Monke Ball, Prop Hunt and Super Infection.
- Maps including Forest, Canyon, Mountain and Beach, plus player-created maps.
Multiplayer and safety
Gorilla Tag is online-only, with lobbies of up to 10 players and voice chat. The player base skews young, so parents should review voice chat settings and use the in-game mute and report tools. Quest and PC players can play together.
Comfort
Meta rates the game as moderate. Arm-based movement tends to cause less discomfort than joystick movement because your body drives it, but fast swinging and falling can still be intense, and it is physically active.
