Meta Quest Touch Plus Controller

Overview

The Meta Quest Touch Plus Controller is the controller that ships in the box with every Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. Meta also sells it on its own as a replacement. Each controller is sold separately: you pick the left or the right version, and each costs $74.99 on the US Meta Store. Meta does not offer a two-controller Touch Plus pack on its US store. The controllers launched with the Meta Quest 3 on October 10, 2023.

Design and tracking

Touch Plus drops the large tracking ring used on earlier Quest controllers. Meta says the controllers use AI-based tracking that relies on the controller being held in the hand and visible to the headset's cameras, a form of inside-out tracking. Each controller has a thumbstick, a trigger, a grip button and two face buttons. The left controller has X, Y and Menu buttons; the right has A, B and the Meta button. Meta also lists TruTouch haptics. Each controller runs on a replaceable battery, and Meta sells rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for use with its charging docks. The box contains one controller, a wrist strap and a safety and warranty guide.

Compatibility

Meta's help center states that Touch Plus controllers can only be used with the Meta Quest 3 or the Meta Quest 3S. They are not supported on the Quest 2 or Quest Pro.

Pairing and setup

You pair a new controller in the Meta Horizon phone app. Open Devices, pick the headset, then go to Headset settings, Controllers and Pair new controller. Hold the Meta and B buttons on the right controller, or the Menu and Y buttons on the left, until the LED blinks and then stays lit. After that, the controller connects on its own whenever the headset is on and nearby. Meta warns that third-party sleeves, covers and attachments can cause pairing and tracking problems, and that accessories made for Quest 2 controllers may not fit Touch Plus. Who it is for

Buy a single Touch Plus controller if you lost or broke one from your Quest 3 or Quest 3S set. If you need both, you have to buy a left and a right controller separately, which costs $149.98 at current US prices. Owners of older Quest headsets need other controllers.
