Zenni Optical was founded in 2003 in California by Tibor Laczay and Julia Zhen, who is now its CEO. It began as 19dollareyeglasses.com and sells prescription glasses, sunglasses and, since 2024, contact lenses online at low prices. The privately held company is based in Novato, California. Its frames are made in Danyang, China, and it runs a lens lab in Obetz, Ohio and a warehouse in California. Zenni said in 2023 that it had sold more than 51 million frames worldwide, with complete prescription pairs starting at $6.95.

Products

Zenni does not make headsets. In VR it makes custom prescription lens inserts for Meta Quest headsets under Meta's Made for Meta program. It announced a partnership with Meta on September 27, 2023 to supply prescription inserts for the Meta Quest 3, and the lenses went on sale on October 10, 2023 at $49.99. A second version fits the Meta Quest 3S and Meta Quest 2. Both are sold on Meta.com in the US as an eVoucher that you redeem by sending your prescription to Zenni, and on Zenni's own site. The inserts take prescriptions from -10.00 to +6.00 sphere and come with a choice of anti-fog or oil-resistant coating.
