Bigscreen
The US startup behind the Bigscreen social cinema app and the ultralight Bigscreen Beyond micro-OLED PC VR headsets tracked by SteamVR base stations.
About Bigscreen
Bigscreen is a US company founded in 2014 by Darshan Shankar. It started in software. Its Bigscreen app lets people watch movies, play games or share their computer screen together in virtual cinemas and rooms, and it is available on several VR platforms, including SteamVR and the Meta Horizon Store.
VR hardware
In 2023, Bigscreen moved into hardware with the original Bigscreen Beyond, a very small PC VR headset with micro-OLED displays and a face cushion made from a 3D scan of each buyer's face. Its successor, the Bigscreen Beyond 2, went on sale in March 2025 and began shipping in late June 2025. It weighs 107 g without strap and cushion, has 2560 × 2560 micro-OLED displays per eye and pancake lenses, and offers a wider field of view than the first model. The Bigscreen Beyond 2e adds eye tracking, which supports foveated rendering and avatar eye movement in social VR.
Bigscreen's headsets connect to a Windows PC and use SteamVR base stations and controllers, which are sold separately. In August 2026, the company switched the standard Beyond 2 to a Universal-Fit Cushion and lowered its starting price, keeping the custom face-scanned cushion as an upgrade.
